    Doris Fischer, Prof. Dr., born 1965, since March 2012 Chair for Chinese and Commerce at Würzburg University.

    Doris Fischer studied Business Administration and Sinology in Hamburg and Wuhan, China, and holds a doctoral degree in Economics. She has done extensive research on competition, regulation and industrial policies in various sectors focusing amongst others on the rationale of Chinese economic policies and resulting incentive structures of economic actors. Her current research focus is on furthering the concept of innovation systems in the context of environmental sustainable, low carbon development and climate change policies with a special interest in the challenges posed by large, fast developing countries to the traditional paradigm of industrialization and economic growth.


    She has worked as assistant professor for the Economic Department/ Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of Duisburg and as senior research fellow at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE). She was invited as guest professor by the Economic Department at Seikei University (Tokyo) (2007) as well as the Sinology Department at the Free University of Berlin (2010).

    On behalf of the DIE, Doris Fischer currently leads an international research network on Technological Trajectories for Climate Change Mitigation in China, Europe and India that includes partners from the Institute of Development Studies (Sussex), the School of Public Management and Administration of Tsinghua University (Beijing) and Indian Institute of Development, Delhi.

    Doris Fischer is board member of the German Association for Asian Studies, and member of the editorial board of the Journal of Current Chinese Affairs.
